The house of David Cameron

There is a book by Peter York called Dictators' Homes. It looks at the buildings owned by several dead despots and points out the often OTT details and interiors that these people obsessed about. It's interesting because, just like their fashion, it tells us something about their personalities. Let's just say that most of these guys didn't live in spartan and minimal cottages! No, their houses often refleced the sick minds of these people and that's why it is important to get a glimpse into the houses of our current politicians...

These images are from an interview David Cameron did with the BBC's Andrew Marr a while back. What do they tell us about the Tory leader? Well, we know he lives in Notting Hill, which is posh and expensive. But we sorted of expected that. The Camerons wouldn't live in Clapton or Herne Hill, would they? First impression are that it's quite empty, but maybe that's because they've cleared furniture and stuff away for the film crew? It looks a bit like an IKEA home, but a very expensive one. It's minimalistic, no clutter. The only real colour is on the red cushion.

We see a lot of books as well. Probably just bought second hand to fill out the book shelf. I can spot a Katie Price biography on the second shelf from the bottom, third book from the right. Open spaced kitchen by the looks of it. Lots of white walls, beige/brown kitchen. Some sort of space ship lamp shades in the kitchen - probably the price of my annual income. All in all it's a modern, clean and expensive home, which is representative of about 26 families in the UK. The funny thing that, after reading York's book, Cameron's home reminds me a lot of Benito Mussolini's pad...
